A Legend (Full Movie)

? episodes · Movie

But good luck getting to it. Prior to the final 25 minutes, you get to watch a mostly awful film. Little of the first 96 minutes of the film take place in the present, maybe 12 minutes of it does. The modern day bits within the first 61 minutes are passable with good moments but not that interesting. The scenes in the past are mostly crap with some decent bits of choreography. Don’t even get me started on how terrible the deaged Jackie looks that they use for the scenes in the past.

Bizarrely , the final 25 minutes of the film are excellent. Jackie gets a great finale fight that is extremely rewatchable and rewarding to a fan like myself. This great fight easily is better than any action scene in The Myth and better than most of Jackie’s fight scenes in his films from 2005 to the present day. Also, Jackie’s Archaeological team members are actually entertaining in this part of the movie. Don’t lLet this fool you. Jackie splendidly gets the bulk majority of the finale fight to himself with only minor help from the group of young people. This in stark contrast to Kung Fu Yoga and Vanguard, where his teammates constantly get in the way of Jackie’s action and engage in their own uninspired melees.

So, yeah ,the four stars which I give this film, three of which are for the final 25 minutes. I would love to get the film on Bluray just for the stuff at the end and one can’t deny the beautiful, well shot locations throughout the film.

This movie made me cringe omg the fight scenes are horrible, the CGI is not good at all, and the acting is laughable. The plot is good but I can noy get over the acting! I don’t know how they were able to put this out for people to enjoy. The movie almost seems rushed and where are the police!?? Your telling me they are just standing on the other side of the bridge doing NOTHING while these guy run around killing everyone uhhh can we get a sniper or SOMETHING ?!?Almost like they gave up. Its not the worst movie ever but nothing to run home about and just enjoy bad acting and even worse dialogue.

Alien Romulus (Full Movie)

A few hours after coming out of the theater and I’m not sure what to make of this. It was… okay, I guess?

It felt like Fedy Alvarez examined the production of each of the previous films, and every left-over idea from them was thrown finally to the screen, along with rehashing the core components of the franchise. You have pieces from Alien, Aliens, Resurrection, and Prometheus/Covenant. For a fan of the series, there are subtle and not-so-subtle easter eggs every few minutes, from sound effects to reused dialogue.

The plot is really simple, as it should be. A group of people exploring a space station. Been there, done that. However, I really liked the use of temperature and gravity in this film, those were something not seen much in this universe. And there were plenty of jump scares. I’m not usually a fan of those, but this time they worked well.

The two lead actors were pretty good, the rest rather forgettable. And not sure what to make of the beyond-the-grave role of one actor…

The world is great. Forget the sleek and clean world of Prometheus, this is back to the ugly 70s retro futuristic stuff. Simply lovely. Aesthetically pleasing, if you like this kind of look.

Finally, however, it does feel like there is really nowhere for this franchise to go in terms of story. I wouldn’t call it artistically bankrupt, but it is close. While this film tied neatly together the “proper” Alien films and the new Prometheus sidestep, it is hard to think what more to make of this creature. Nearly all the mystery has been stripped from the Xenomorph. I do wonder, is there anything left to do with this creature? More stand-alone films?

Apocalypse Z The Beginning of the End (Full Movie)

? episodes · Movie
6.1

Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End is a solid addition to the zombie horror genre. While it doesn’t bring anything groundbreaking, it’s a well-made film with good acting, an engaging story of a man and his cat surviving in what feels like the end of the world, and endless waves of bloodthirsty undead. Notably, this movie features “fast zombies,” so expect lots of frantic chases and intense action.

After watching the trailer, I had high expectations, so I was a bit disappointed by the slow start. The first 45 minutes had little action, but it turned out to be the calm before the storm. Suddenly, the pace shifted, and in just a few minutes, Apocalypse Z went from zero to one hundred. From then on, the film was packed with action.

The movie delves into relationships on several levels. The main character has flashbacks about his late wife, frequently tries to talk to his sister, and, of course, converses with his cat. He also meets new allies and enemies among the survivors. As the story progresses, these relationships reveal their importance to both the protagonist’s journey and the plot itself.

Bad Boys Ride or Die (Full Movie)

6.5

I looked forward to Bad Boys: Ride or Die as I really enjoyed Bad Boys for Life. It retains a lot of the positive things which have made the past films fun such as impactful action, R rated jokes and family dynamics. That came with a bunch of side characters new and old and an okay plot but there is one thing that lets this movie down and it’s Martin Lawrence’s character, Marcus Burnett.

Unfortunately, it’s becoming all too common in Hollywood for a character to be so over the top for a movie that it just becomes distracting.

After surviving a near death experience at the beginning of the film, Marcus is high on life and he literally acts as if he is high for the rest of the film. This went beyond fun and playful to the point where it was distracting and annoying. It led to many frustrating scenes which felt like they belonged in a cartoon including one scene where the characters chose one of the worst possible moments to sing the Bad Boys theme.

In the End, Bad Boys Ride or Die is a frustrating but okay film which could have been much better with different narrative choices although many people might enjoy the direction that the film went.

Bagman (Full Movie)

? episodes · Movie
6.3

The Bagman had an intriguing premise but left a lot of questions unanswered, especially when it came to the characters’ decisions. One of the most perplexing choices was leaving the child alone while all the horror unfolded. It felt illogical, given that the adults were clearly aware of the danger and opted to sleep together for safety. Why would they separate the most vulnerable person? This inconsistency really pulled me out of the experience and made it hard to connect with the characters’ survival instincts.

That said, the movie did have its moments. The atmosphere was chilling, and there were a few genuinely unsettling scenes that kept me on edge. However, it often felt like the pacing was off, with long stretches of buildup that didn’t always pay off.

Despite these issues, I’m actually interested in the sequel. The film has laid down some groundwork that could go in a great direction. If the sequel addresses the characters’ decisions better and tightens up the storytelling, it could deliver on the promise that the first film hinted at. There’s potential here, and I’m curious to see how it develops.

Damsel (Full Movie)

? episodes · Movie
7

Damsel is a visually captivating fantasy adventure that showcases an engaging mix of action, mystery, and strong performances. Millie Bobby Brown delivers a solid lead as the princess who quickly realizes her rescue isn’t coming, taking matters into her own hands. Her character’s transformation from damsel to warrior is compelling and adds a modern, empowering twist to the typical fairytale formula.

The world-building is impressive, with stunning landscapes and some breathtaking moments of action and suspense. However, the movie’s pacing can feel uneven at times, with certain scenes dragging while others rush through key developments. While the film does a good job of subverting typical princess tropes, the story itself doesn’t always break new ground in the fantasy genre, leaving some aspects feeling predictable.

Overall, Damsel is an entertaining film with a strong lead and striking visuals, but it doesn’t fully capitalize on its potential. It’s a solid 7 out of 10 for its engaging action and empowering message, despite a few pacing and storytelling hiccups.

Gladiator II (Full Movie)

6.6

There seems to be a trend these days when making follow ups to beloved classics that you need to add more. More characters! More action! But that doesn’t always equal better. It’s almost like filmmakers these days think we’re stupid and want more of everything but all this does is sacrifice quality.

What made the original such a classic was the relatively simple plot, a protagonist you cared about and action that felt earned and impactful.

This one is so overstuffed it feels rushed. The plot feels like a lazy retread of the first but I didn’t care about any of the characters. Paul Mescal was so wooden it sounded like he was reading his lines. If this is how he acts, I really don’t see what all the fuss is about with him. Am I missing something.

The action, while visually impressive, lacked impact. Some studio exec probably thought ‘hmm there was only 1 exotic animal in the first film, we can do better! Let’s add way more!’

Godzilla x Kong The New Empire (Full Movie)

? episodes · Movie
6.1

Godzilla x Kong is undeniably vacuous and as hollow as the imaginary world it portrays. It’s essentially a very forgettable monster mashup that aims for the heights of the epic and terrifying; but instead serves an OTT nonstop chest-beating slugfest, smothered in tawdry CGI. It’s overpowered monster WWE seemingly presented as something the filmmakers *believe* or estimate an audience will like; as if it were the product of a soulless spreadsheet.

These tired titans of bygone cinema have been pulled back into the limelight as the viewer suffers a nowhere-plot aimed at the lowest common denominator. The Kaiju terror is here, but in a very watered-down state.

No dialogue because it’s just senseless roaring beasts? Don’t need to pay anyone to write a good script. Excessive closeups of the beasts all the time? Well that handily means they didn’t need to animate higher-budget complex scenes from a more interesting POV. Sensory overload to distract the viewer from the complete lack of actual substance? Check. The corner-cutting is so apparent the more you look; the buck is passed onto the consumers who continue to accept this poor standard of filmmaking time and time again.

Big fan of Andy Lau here. He is a great man and a great actor.

Regarding the plot, some would say it’s pretty standard for a hijack type of film. And I would agree with them. But It’s executed well and it didn’t felt forced. I don’t start watching a hijack film expecting it’s goner be 100% unique.

The casts other than Andy Lau, are quite good. Nothing over-the-top trying to glorify the characters hollywood style, thankfully.

Overall it’s exciting enough constantly, really a decent movie. As for the 10 Star, why the 10 Star? I could haven’t given it a true 8 Stars. BUT seems like there are other biased reviewers here putting extremely low scores without logical reasons. Figured I’ll just exercise the third law of Newton.

I, the Executioner (Full Movie)

? episodes · Movie
6.3

Or is it rookie Executioner? No pun intended – also not much of a mystery when it comes to the whodunit … at least for the viewer who has seen more than his/her fair share of movies. Talking of which: this is a direct sequel of the movie Veteran! You do not have to have seen it – but it help with establishing the characters … not that they do not take some turns and twists here.

The movie begins really strong – you have to dig the humor … and the action! It is quite the fine line this walks .. but it achieves this wonderfully! And the action choreography is just amazing to say the least.

Add to that some social commentary .. and some individual and nice touches … another winner! Have to rewatch the first movie again – even if it is something completely different.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (Full Movie)

? episodes · Movie
6.9

This film continues the franchise’s tradition of delivering thought-provoking and visually stunning sci-fi. The film shines with its impressive special effects and CGI, which bring the apes to life in a remarkably realistic way. The world-building is expansive, offering a fresh take on the franchise’s post-apocalyptic setting that’s both intriguing and immersive. The story introduces new layers to the apes’ society and their conflicts, maintaining the series’ hallmark of exploring complex themes through its characters.

The performances, particularly from the lead actors portraying the apes, are compelling, adding depth and emotion to their roles. The action sequences are well-choreographed and engaging, keeping the tension high throughout.

However, the film does stumble slightly in its pacing. Some parts of the story drag, and there are moments where the narrative feels overly familiar, relying on tropes from previous installments. Additionally, while the new characters are interesting, they don’t always receive the development needed to make a strong impact.

Overall, this is a strong entry in the series that continues to captivate with its imaginative world and impressive visuals, even if it occasionally falls into predictable patterns. It’s a satisfying watch for fans and newcomers alike, with enough to offer to keep the franchise’s legacy alive.

Never Let Go (Full Movie)

? episodes · Movie
6.5

I don’t think this movie is bad, but for all the tension it creates I feel that the ending isn’t the complete justice that is being sought for. A story about a family who can’t leave the safety of their house without a rope around them because an evil lurks in the forest. Everything comes into question when one of the children begin to question if the evil is real.

Halle Berry is pretty decent in this film, but I don’t think it’s her performance that carries the story. It’s Anthony B. Jenkins and Percy Daggs IV that make you care the slightest about the come of things. They may be young, and I wouldn’t call this their strongest performance, but they have lots of potential as actors.

The music is pretty top notch for creating the fear and tension. It knows how to elevate the visuals in ways that seeing things alone won’t help. Though the cinematography is good in creating that tension and unknown as well.

I would watch this again because it gave me the heebie jeebies just enough to feel frightened at times, but I wasn’t overly unsettled that I couldn’t see an outcome a mile away. There’s a terrific score that trumps everything and enhances the story. While the ending is kind of anti-climatic it was acceptable for me and I didn’t hate myself for sitting through the film.

That’s it for now. Thanks for taking time to read my review. Happy watching and enjoy the show!

Project Silence (Full Movie)

? episodes · Movie
5.4

Hundreds of people get stuck on the airport bridge when thick fog causes a huge car pile-up. We follow Jeong-won and his daughter Kyeong-min, golf player Yoo-ra and her tour operator Mi-ran, an elderly couple Byeong-hak and Soon-ok (who suffers from Alzheimers), and truck driver Jo Park (who mainly serves as comic relief) as they deal with their situation.

Soon after the accident mutated dogs escape from the truck they were being transported in. Dogs were experimented on to be used for infiltration purposes for the military, but the dogs eventually became too aggressive. Doctor Yang, the project manager who is also trapped on the bridge, activates the dogs remotely, but also finds himself in a life-threatening situation when the dogs become out of control.

As the dogs start attacking people, it becomes a quest for survival for our heroes. To make matters worse, the badly damaged bridge is on the verge of collapse. The film had the potential to be a lot more suspenseful, but I guess they didn’t want it too serious, so there’s plenty of humour so the film can appeal to a wider audience. Some of the action sequences are well done, although the visual effects are not the greatest and the dogs are clearly CGI. This is still a very entertaining movie, so get the popcorn ready and enjoy this rollercoaster thrill ride.

Red One (Full Movie)

? episodes · Movie
6.3

This isn’t a flawless movie; some of the CGI and character designs are terrible (e.g. The Krampus cantina scene); the tone is an inconsistent mix of earnestness and moderately profane PG-13 snark; and the conclusion is predictable (as it is with virtually every Christmas movie, to be fair.) Nevertheless it has enough strange notions along the way that it’s entertaining in spite of its flaws. The worldbuilding is inventive and the story combines Icelandic, Alpine and Nordic traditions in satisfying ways. The acting is decent. The protagonists are well-developed and they’re just barely sympathetic enough that their redemptions are rewarding. Some of the dialogue is deceptively sharp. Overall the movie isn’t trying to be anything other than unconventional bombastic fun and it mostly succeeds.

This isn’t a future classic or reinvention of a genre but it is enjoyable, quirky and affable. I’m perplexed by the overwhelmingly negative critical response; but having gone into it with low expectations because of same I was pleasantly surprised.

Striking Rescue (Full Movie)

? episodes · Movie
6.5

This one is one where you can see the end from its opening, but it’s well worth your time if you enjoy other action movies.

Feels very much like old school Hollywood action film that rarely got made nowadays. Some of the special effects is a bit weak but doesn’t take you out of the film.

Fighting choreography is excellent, each hit feels connected. And most importantly, no crazy jump cuts on every moves, it does have a bit too much slow motion shots in my opinion, since it mostly a repeat of a previous move that’s played in normal speed.

Story is fine, as it serves the action, what more do we need really?

Sumala (Full Movie)

? episodes · Movie
5.8

This movie is a horror film inspired by a real urban legend from a village in Semarang, Indonesia. The story of Sumala has been widely discussed in local podcasts, and the village is known for its strict rule prohibiting people from going outside after Maghrib. According to witnesses, a boy was killed by Sumala while retrieving a lost ball, and his body was later found in a river. These chilling accounts have contributed to the legend’s eerie reputation.

However, the film takes a different approach. Instead of focusing on the firsthand ghostly encounters reported by multiple visitors to the village, it chooses to dive into the backstory of Sumala, a narrative that may or may not be true. This decision weakens the horror aspect, as the film leans more into action-gore territory, resembling movies like *Chucky* and *Saw*, rather than delivering the eerie suspense expected from a ghost story.

One of the biggest letdowns is the acting. Darius Sinathrya, who plays the father, gives an unconvincing very poor performance, while Luna Maya, playing the mother, delivers a passable but uninspired role. The supporting cast is a mixed bag, some performances are solid, but others fall flat. Despite its tense atmosphere, the weak acting and misplaced focus on gore over mystery make the film less compelling than it could have been.

Overall, Sumala had the potential to be a gripping horror film, especially with the terrifying real-life accounts behind it. But instead of exploring the unsettling experiences of those who have visited the village of Sumala, it prioritizes an exaggerated origin story, making it feel more like an action-gore thriller than a true horror mystery.

Survive (Full Movie)

? episodes · Movie
4.6

This show is an absolute waste of time, and watching it is not only frustrating but downright nerve-wracking. The characters are, without a doubt, some of the most idiotic I’ve ever encountered in every possible way. The storyline is utterly nonsensical, lacking any coherence or sense, and the random, unclear mix of languages only adds to the confusion. There are countless reasons why this is a show to avoid at all costs.

The characters, in particular, are unbelievably foolish, with the young boy standing out as the worst offender. His actions and behavior are so immature and ridiculous that it feels like they should have been celebrating his 3rd birthday instead of his 13th. The complete lack of logic or realism in his character makes it impossible to take him or the story seriously.

Suspect (Full Movie)

? episodes · Movie

Overcomplicated , overproduced, over storytelling.

That’s about sums it all up. Oh, and over the top referencing. Reference mythology, psychology even criminology but obviously other movies. So the actual meat of story is really thin.

The setting of kinda timeless cyberpunkish retro future also distracts more than helps. This is because there are not enough details. Like the police station interior and office details, all other desktop items, room furniture, even costume of the minor characters.

And the ultimate cop out is a character with total memory recall. This is not to mention lack of character depth. Having a back story is not enough if time is not given, and actor not giving space to act.

Btw. No normal people talk like that. The dream with in a dream, twist within a twist just show the lack of confidence in the substantiality of the story.

And do I care about how this ends?

Venom The Last Dance (Full Movie)

Maybe it’s just because of my low expectations toward the series but it was just fun to watch. I’ve already lost hope for the trilogy to have a decent plot but I can say that this one has a better storyline than the second film.

CGI was fine, I coudn’t find any disturbing point. It was interesting to see the other symbiotes. I think those new symbiotes showed more symbiote-ish action scenes than venom when it comes to the fight ironically.

There were a few funny jokes that made me laugh but I didn’t really find Eddie’s weird obsession for shoes funny, like was it supposed to be funny? Guess it was meant to be humor but well… it was almost tiring.

Weekend in Taipei (Full Movie)

I don’t mean to hate on this movie so much so I’ll make a compliment sandwich. I think this movie has some seriously well made action scenes and visually stimulating cinematography. The drama in this felt so cheesy like drenched a fondue pot.

Ultimately it’s a spy movie, and they really spent a bunch of money in the right place on this movie, except maybe find someone else to do a score, because my god, can someone arrest the man who scored this movie. I swear every action scene was scored with something that managed to make no sense with what was happening at all. The only scene where the music felt ok was when it was diegetic.

It was hard to pay attention to much else once you notice how off the music is compared to what’s happening on screen. The romance was cute and I appreciate that it was an older, matching aged couple. But it wasn’t a strong story line. The few moments that sparkled didn’t stand out against the rest of the bland film.
